The Germany Au Pair Program is a cultural exchange program that allows young people to live with a German host family, help care for children, learn the German language, and experience German culture. In return, the host family provides free accommodation, meals, monthly pocket money, health insurance, and support for German language classes.
Eligibility criteria
- Age: 18–28 years
- Basic German language proficiency (A1 level) is mandatory for most non-EU applicants
- Must genuinely enjoy working with children
- Must be physically and mentally fit
- Must have a valid passport
- Must have an Au Pair contract with a German host family before applying for the visa
Duration
- Minimum: 6 months
- Maximum: 12 months
- Extension beyond 12 months is generally not possible under the Au Pair program
